02 · What a visit is for

Records, in your hands.

  1. Browse

Jam Session is an independent used-media shop. Records are looked through in person, one sleeve at a time. What's in the crates changes, so the shop decides what's on the floor.

  2. Ask

Come with a record, a band or just a mood. The question builder further down gives you a place to start at the counter.

  3. Call first

Hours weren't confirmed in the sources we checked. A short call to (208) 370-5216 settles it before you drive.

To confirm with the shop: opening hours, which formats they stock, whether they buy or trade, and any events. None of these are claimed on this page.

03 · The dig ·

Flip. Read. Keep one.

  1. Start at the far end. Come at the bin from the back. Your hands slow down where your eyes get curious.
  2. Flip, don't read. Tip each sleeve forward with a thumb. Judge the cover first, the credits second.
  3. Read the back. Players, producer, label. The small print is a map to your next five records.
  4. Ask the counter. Say what you like and let someone who handles records all day point past the obvious.
  5. Keep one out. When a sleeve won't leave your hand, pull it. That's the one.

Dig habits to try, not shop rules or a stock list.

Skip the dig, pull a sleeve

04 · Make it personal

What's your side?

Pick a mood and the sleeve in the crate changes. You get a question to ask at the counter. It's a guide to browsing, not a live stock checker, and nothing is booked, sent or saved.

Choose a listening mood

Choose a listening mood

Start with the noisy stuff.

"Hi, I'm after something loud and raw: punk, garage, fast and rough. What's been coming into the bins lately?"

Good to have ready: a band you already love, a rough budget, and how much room you have on the shelf.

Go where the groove lives.

"Hi, I'm in the mood for something deep and warm: jazz, soul, slower records. What's been coming into the bins lately?"

Good to have ready: one record you'd call a favorite, a rough budget, and whether you're digging for a gift.

Follow the familiar sleeve.

"Hi, I'm looking for old favorites: classic rock and records I might half-remember. What's been coming into the bins lately?"

Good to have ready: a decade you grew up in, a rough budget, and a few names you'd say yes to.

Hand it over to the bin.

"Hi, I don't have a genre in mind. What would you pull out for someone who's just here to dig?"

Good to have ready: a rough budget and an open afternoon.

Call the shop
